Cherilyn Schutze M.Ed, LPC Intern
Hello! I’m Cherilyn. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (under the supervision of Emilee Strain, MS., LPC-S). I received my BA in Psychology and English from The University of Texas and my Master’s in Counseling from The University of North Texas. I am the mother of 4 daughters and two dogs. I was married to my high school sweetheart for 29 years prior to his passing away from cancer in 2013. I hold a special place in my heart for those living with chronic illness and grief.
My passion is helping teens and families develop new ways of managing mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, emotion dsyregulation, suicidal ideation, and grief, in addition to life transitions and stressors. My goal is to help my clients gain new ways of coping and thinking to create positive change in their lives.
I am relationship focused. I believe that our rapport is one of the most important aspects of therapy. I have a relaxed, nonjudgmental style and work collaboratively with my clients. I use many evidence-based treatments in my therapy approach such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, Sandtray Therapy, and Mindfulness, in addition to David Kessler’s model for grief. My favorite quote is by Dr. Wayne Dyer who said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” I would be honored to work with you to help you find new ways to look at your struggles and gain the skills necessary to make changes to become a happier, healthier you! Give me a call and let's see how we can work together!
