Shelley describes her style as “Easy to talk to, challenging when needed, an educator, someone who gets it”. My ability to connect with my clients and provide them a place they feel comfortable discussing unpleasant topics or events is important to me. With that in place, I believe the work that needs to be done will follow.
I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, so my sessions focus on educating clients about the thought-behavior-emotion connection, problem solving, and skill building. I’ve been known to work with high risk behaviors such as self harming and suicidal ideation. I also see clients that need assistance with reducing anxiety to a manageable level, improving self esteem and boundaries, as well as couples that need to rebuild connections with one another. I have been trained to use the world renowned Gottman methods in working with couples.
The therapeutic approaches I use are evidenced based and backed by years of scientific research. Some areas that I like to work with are mood disorders, anxiety disorders, emotion regulation, self injury, eating disorders, relationships, communication skills, self esteem, boundary issues.
